Characterization of Chromosome Fragile Sites and Chromosomal Rearrangements in Loricariidae (Siluriformes)

Loricariids fishes show a high variation in diploid number and karyotypic formulae, however little is known about the DNA sequences involved in chromosomal breaks and rearrangements. Thus, in Loricariidae, especially in Ancistrus and Rineloricaria genus, we propose to evaluate the DNA sequences presented at chromosomal fragile sites, study the telomeric instability and the mechanisms involved in chromosomal diversification. As strategy, we use genomic tools, conventional and molecular cytogenetics methods, DNA sequencing, and bioinformatics analyses, in order to integrate the obtained data, allowing us to understand the mechanisms of action that participate in the chromosomal diversification, using this Neotropical fish as models.
